The heart behind the work
Philippians 4:13 Consulting Group was founded to address a common gap: organizations committed to meaningful impact often lack the internal infrastructure needed to sustain the people doing the work.
Founded and led by Marilyn Michelle, founder and principal I-O psychologist, with experience in workforce strategy, HR systems, and community-centered organizations, we operate as strategic partners, working alongside leadership and staff to strengthen culture, capacity, and workforce well-being at the systems level.
Every engagement is grounded in industrial-organizational psychology, backed by science, and informed by data. Our human-centered approach brings together trauma-responsive, culturally responsive, and psychologically safe practices. And it's intentionally not clinical: this work is educational and organizational in nature, building workplaces where people can thrive, not providing therapy.
Based in Pittsburgh, serving organizations nationally. Because mission-driven work should never come at the cost of workforce well-being; strong systems support strong service.
Experience & perspective
A foundation in people, systems, and community
Higher education
Recruitment & engagement: students and staff
My higher-education work spanned both sides of the experience: student recruitment and engagement, alongside full-cycle employee recruitment, talent attraction, candidate experience, and learning for hiring managers and search committees. I saw needs across both groups and provided support to help people connect, participate, and succeed.
On the staff side, I updated application processes so they worked better for the people using them: a smoother, more respectful applicant experience paired with stronger hiring practices, systems, and processes behind the scenes. I have also used social media, student engagement programming, cross-functional collaboration, and reporting to strengthen outreach and recruitment. Application increases were seen in both student and employee recruitment within my higher-education employment experience. The transferable lens is practical: where are people dropping out, where is time being lost, and what support would make the next step easier?
30% increase in applications received
The quantified employee-recruitment result from my higher-education employment role: increasing careers visibility on LinkedIn. Student recruitment also saw application increases through social media and engagement implementation; a separate student percentage is not stated here. These are founder employment results, not consulting client outcomes.
Healthcare & community outreach
Culturally responsive education & trust-building
My healthcare and community outreach experience brings together culturally responsive education, strategic communication, and partnerships across community settings. This work informs how I help organizations understand their audiences, build trust, and create engagement programming that reflects the people they serve.
Whether the challenge is mistrust, unclear information, or barriers to participation, I draw on transparent communication, behavioral insights, and evaluation to make engagement more meaningful. The same principles matter inside organizations: listen carefully, respond credibly, and close the feedback loop.
I have also developed team-building experiences and culturally relevant educational training and programming.
Business & human resources
People insight. Business understanding.
I hold a master's degree in Industrial-Organizational Psychology and a bachelor's degree in Business & Human Resource Management. This foundation connects the science of how people think, feel, and behave at work to the everyday HR practices, operational needs, and business decisions that shape the employee experience.
I can help organizations strengthen exit interview processes, develop Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), and improve awareness of and access to Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs). This support focuses on organizational practices and communication, not clinical care or legal advice.
A process-thinking partner
From “this isn't working” to a workable next step.
I look past the symptom to the root problem, walk through the process with you, and analyze where support is needed. Then I help translate that understanding into practical improvements, implementation, documentation, and training included. The goal is not just to name the issue, but to help your people move forward.

Whose experience is being overlooked?
My master's thesis explored psychological safety and well-being among Black women in the workplace, researching the Strong Black Woman schema. That focus informs my attention to whose voices are heard, how support is experienced, and whether workplace expectations leave room for people to ask for help.

Why "Philippians 4:13"?
What we believe
Organizations are made of people.
Meaningful change never comes from a one-size-fits-all training or a quick fix.
When people feel supported, respected, heard, challenged, and connected to purpose, organizations are better positioned to serve their communities.
We don't simply help organizations do more; we help them build the conditions to do meaningful work well, and sustain it.
How we work
Values that guide every engagement
Relationship-centered
We work alongside you, not over you. Partnership is how real change happens.
Evidence-based
Behavioral science and organizational practice, not fads, not guesswork.
Grounded in integrity
Ethically administered assessments, confidentiality protected, honesty always.
Human-centered
The people doing the work are the point, not an afterthought.
Transparent
Fees, scope, and findings explained plainly, including what we would not fix yet.
Accountable
We do what we said we would do and show our work along the way. Trustworthiness lives in the follow-through.
